St George & St Shenouda Church Announcement concerning Coronavirus / COVID-19
To the God-fearing Congregation of St George & St Shenouda Coptic Orthodox Church,
As we know the Coronavirus has been spreading around the world and now is in the United States. Recently, there were numerous confirmed cases identified in Bergen County, NJ and New York City, which neighbor our church in Jersey City. While there are no confirmed cases in Jersey City at this time, the church will take some precautionary health measures to keep her congregation safe. These health measures are in line with local, state, and federal guidelines for a proactive approach to reducing the frequency of contact and reducing community spread.
1. If you are experiencing any symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, fever, and shortness of breath, please stay home and contact your healthcare provider. While Coronavirus poses the greatest risk to older people and those with underlying health conditions, we share a responsibility as members of a church community to take precautions to help prevent the spread of the virus to those who are most vulnerable. Please consider your brothers and sisters who may have a compromised immune system such as the elderly.
2. Starting Thursday 3-12-20, and until further notice, the church will cancel all services except for liturgies. This includes, Bible Study, Sunday School, Hymns Classes, and all meetings. This is in line with Local, State and CDC guidelines encouraging the limitation of public gatherings. This is also in line with Jersey City and Bayonne Schools who have been closed. The church is looking to continue to provide such service through online means.
3. Church members should bring their own women’s head scarves for liturgy, handkerchiefs and water for communion.
4. All, including priests and clergy, are asked to refrain from close contact greetings of handshaking, kissing, and hugging, but rather, bowing your head and placing your hands on your heart. This is also acceptable during the Kiss of Peace during liturgy.
5. Clergy and servant visitations to homes, hospitals, and nursing homes will be restricted only to critical services. This is also in line with restrictions regarding coming in contact with the elderly or those with compromised immunity.

2. حتى إشعار آخرٍ – ابتداء من الخميس 12 مارس 2020 ، ستقوم الكنيسة بإلغاء جميع الخدمات باستثناء القداسات. وهذا يشمل فصول دراسة الكتاب المقدس ، مدارس الأحد ، دروس الألحان ، وجميع الاجتماعات الأخرى. يتوافق هذا مع التوجيهات الصحية المحلية الخاصة بالولاية ومراكز مكافحة الأمراض والوقاية التي تشجع على الحد من التجمعات العامة ، كما تقرر بمدارس جيرسي سيتي وبايون التي تم إغلاقها حالياً.
3. يجب على كل عضو إحضار اللفائف والمياه الخاصة به وكذلك أغطية الرأس الخاصة للسيدات.
